Krill

Krill oil is extract from Antarctic krill, small schrimp-like fishes that live in the open seas. Krill contains two important components. One is Omega-3 Fatty acids similar to what can be found in Fish oil. Phospholipid-derived fatt acids are the other. This component helps with the absorption of the Omega-3 in the body and increases its effect in comparison to fish oil.

Krill forms the primary diet of several animals, like Baleen whales, mantas and whale shark. It is therefore nice to know that Krill is sustainably caught. This is internationally agreed upon to limit the disturbance of the ecosystem around the Arctic ocean.

Omega 3

Omega 3-fatty acids are polyunsaturated fatty acids. These keep cells in our body flexible and because of this they perform better. Omega 3-fatty acids protect against heart disease and fit into a healthy diet. The best known are alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) and the fish fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). ALA is an essential fatty acid. This means that the body can not make it and you should get  this fatty acid through food.

Adequate intake of Omega 3 is linked to a lower likelihood of death caused by heart diseases. Omega-3 is also Anti-inflammatory and improves the strength of your bones. Omega 3 is also linked with a good night’s sleep and helping against depression and anxiety. It’s best if you take in omega 3 directly by eating fish, but because supplements are often necessary, Krill Oil is recommended in favour of fish oil.
