Voltaren patch 140 mg diclofenac sodium
Voltaren patch is a medicine that reduces pain. It belongs to a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
What is this medicine used for
Voltaren Patch is intended for people aged 16 years and older who have pain in an arm or leg due to a sudden injury, such as a sprain, bruise, or strain caused by blunt trauma (such as a fall or blow), and may be used for a maximum of 7 consecutive days to reduce pain at the site of the injury.
Do not use
- If you are allergic to diclofenac or any of the other substances in this medicine. You can find these substances in the package leaflet.
- If you are allergic to another medicine from the NSAID group (for example acetylsalicylic acid [aspirin] or ibuprofen).
- If you have ever had an asthma attack, hives, or swelling and irritation inside the nose after taking acetylsalicylic acid or another NSAID.
- If you have an active stomach or duodenal ulcer.
- If your skin is damaged (for example by a graze, cut, burn), you have an infection on the skin, or your skin is inflamed (exudative dermatitis). Or if you suffer from eczema.
- If you are in the last 3 months of your pregnancy.
- If you are a child or you are younger than 16 years old.
Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding
- During pregnancy: Must NOT be used, unless strictly advised by a doctor.
- During breastfeeding: Must NOT be used, unless strictly advised by a doctor.
Other information
Specific warnings:
- Do not use this medicine if there is visible damage to the patch.
- The patch must not come into contact with the eyes or mucous membranes and must not be applied there.
- Elderly patients must use this medicine with extra caution. They are more likely to experience side effects.
- If a skin rash occurs after applying the patch: Remove the patch immediately and stop the treatment.
- After removing the patch, prevent the treated area from coming into contact with direct sunlight or radiation (sunbeds).
Active ingredients
The active substance in this medicine is diclofenac sodium.
Each patch contains diclofenac as 140 mg diclofenac sodium.
Excipients (inactive ingredients)
The other substances in this medicine are:
- Backing layer: Polyester non-woven fabric
- Adhesive layer: Polyacrylate suspension, Tributyl citrate, Butylated hydroxyanisole
- Protective liner: Mono silicone coated paper
Dosage
The recommended dosage is 1 patch per day.
Maximum dosage
1 patch per 24 hours.
